This verse reminds us of the Jews who said, “Show Allah to us clearly!” and of all previous nations who requested for signs, making these signs conditional to their belief.
“So bring us a sign, should you be truthful.” [Surah Asy-Syu’ara: 154].
It is not becoming of Allah U to speak to any human being unless it is from behind a veil and the natural nature of human beings is that they cannot connect directly with the very essence of God. And when Musa u asked to see his Lord, Allah U manifested Himself to the mountain, and it crumbled, causing Musa u to fall unconscious. Hence, it is necessary to only engage or connect with Allah U from behind a veil or through angels
as Allah U says:
“It is not fitting for any human that Allah should speak to him except through revelation or from behind a curtain, or by sending a messenger who reveals by His permission whatever He wishes. Indeed, He is All-Exalted, All-Wise.” [Surah Asy-Syuraa: 51].
