(99) - “And We have certainly revealed to you verses [which are] clear proofs, and no one would deny them except the defiantly disobedient.”

This verse is addressed to the Prophet Muhammad r, as a rebuttal towards the Jews who used to argue with him.

The word ‘Aayah’ means a miracle. Therefore, since the Holy Qur’an is miraculous in its words and meanings, that is, in both structure and content, its verses are called the ‘Aayaat’. There is a miracle found in every single verse of the Holy Qur’an.

“…and no one would deny them except the defiantly disobedient.”

The word ‘Kufr’ means the concealment and denial. Thus, no one denies and conceals the verses of Allah U except the ‘Fasiqun’; the ones who stray from the way. The word ‘Fasiq’ comes from the verb ‘Fasaqa’. When it is used for a fruit, it means that the fruit has separated itself from its skin.
