(65) - (And if you ask them, they will surely say, "We were only conversing and playing." Say, "Is it Allah and His verses and His Messenger that you were mocking?)

(And if you ask them, they will surely say, “We were only conversing and playing.”):
When the hypocrite finds himself cornered and the situation becomes tight for him, he tends to portray the matter as if it were just a game and it was done without intention. So, it becomes a form of mockery, play, and a trivialization of the situation. So, Allah (swt) says:

(Say, “Is it Allah and His verses and His Messenger that you were mocking?): Is it possible for someone to mock the Creator (swt) and those who convey His message? Would a person dare to mock his Creator? If one escapes punishment in this world, they will not escape it in the Hereafter. In this world, there are lessons that affirm the validity of every word in the Book of Allah (swt) as conveyed by the Prophet (saws).
