الآية رقم (63) - أَلَمْ يَعْلَمُواْ أَنَّهُ مَن يُحَادِدِ اللّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ فَأَنَّ لَهُ نَارَ جَهَنَّمَ خَالِدًا فِيهَا ذَلِكَ الْخِزْيُ الْعَظِيمُ

(63) - (Do they not know that whoever opposes Allah and His Messenger - that for him is the fire of Hell, wherein he will abide eternally? That is the great disgrace.)

(أَلَمْ يَعْلَمُوا…) (Do they not know…): This is a rebuking question.

…أَنَّهُ مَن يُحَادِدِ…)) (that, whoever opposes…): The Arabic word translated here to (opposes) is derived from the word meaning (putting iron stakes). In fact, in some villages, people place iron stakes as a boundary between one piece of land and another. Hence, the Arabic term of “opposes” comes from this usage. Literally it means to exceed the limits and go beyond your rights. Thus, whoever opposes Allah (swt), they goes beyond His (swt) limits and the limits specified by His Messenger (saws).

So, let no one say: ‘We follow only the Quran, and we do not have to follow the hadith of the Messenger of Allah’. These verses from the Quran are a direct and clear response that refute off any argument. If we want to obey Allah (swt), we must also obey His Messenger (saws). We cannot obey Allah without adhering to the teachings of the Prophet (saws). Allah (swt) says:

  وَأَنزَلْنَا إِلَيْكَ الذِّكْرَ لِتُبَيِّنَ لِلنَّاسِ مَا نُزِّلَ إِلَيْهِمْ

(And We revealed):

to you the message that you may make clear to the people what was sent down to them) (An-Nahl:44)

This is a clear command. Allah (swt) has commanded you to perform prayer, but the details of prayer are derived from the Messenger of Allah (saws). Similarly, regarding Zakat, inheritance, and other regulations. Allah (swt) provides the foundation, and the Messenger of Allah (saws) expresses the details. This applies to rulings of transactions, ethics, and all aspects of divine laws. The Prophet (saws), is entrusted with clarification and he is the only entitled to legislate and define matters specifically and generally, and deals with all issues related to religious and legal judgments.

(…ذَٰلِكَ الْخِزْيُ الْعَظِيمُ) (That is the great disgrace): For those who oppose Allah (swt) and His Messenger (saws), there will be punishment and also humiliation. Combining “disgrace” with “great” indicates great humiliation and shame that will they face on the Day of Judgment.
