(189) - (It is He who created you from one soul and created from it its mate that he might dwell in security with her. And when he covers her, she carries a light burden and continues therein. And when it becomes heavy, they both invoke Allah, their Lord, "If You should give us a good [child], we will surely be among the grateful.")

( هُوَ الَّذِي خَلَقَكُم مِّن نَّفْسٍ وَاحِدَةٍ ) (It is He who created you from one soul): This was proved scientifically and historically. However, as long as it is stated in the Holy Quran, then it must be truthful. The single soul referred to in the verse is that of Prophet Adam (PBUH).

( وَجَعَلَ مِنْهَا زَوْجَهَا ) (and created from it its mate): Referring to Eve.

( لِيَسْكُنَ إِلَيْهَا) (that he might dwell in security with her): The wife resembles tranquility, affection, and mercy, a dwelling for the soul and a rest for humanity, which is the foundation for building homes and families.

( فَلَمَّا تَغَشَّاهَا ) (And when he covers her): This is a refined way of expressing sexual intercourse between a man and his wife. Taking into consideration that Allah (swt) has allowed man to have lawfully this relation with women, so that people will reproduce and give birth to generations

( حَمَلَتْ حَمْلًا خَفِيفًا فَمَرَّتْ بِهِ ) (she carries a light burden and continues therein): This refers to the early stages of pregnancy.

( فَلَمَّا أَثْقَلَت ) (And when it becomes heavy): Until the woman becomes fully aware she is pregnant when her pregnancy grows heavy.

( دَّعَوَا اللَّهَ رَبَّهُمَا) (they both invoke Allah, their Lord): At this point both parents invoked Allah (swt).

( لَئِنْ آتَيْتَنَا صَالِحًا ) (If You should give us a good [child]): They both invoked Allah (swt) to grant them a child who is righteousness and free from any physical disabilities.

(لَّنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الشَّاكِرِينَ ) (we will surely be among the grateful): Then, they claimed that they will be grateful to Allah (swt). Gratefulness means to be obedient.
