الآية رقم (178) - مَن يَهْدِ اللّهُ فَهُوَ الْمُهْتَدِي وَمَن يُضْلِلْ فَأُوْلَـئِكَ هُمُ الْخَاسِرُونَ

(178) - (Whoever Allah guides - he is the [rightly] guided; and whoever He sends astray - it is those who are the losers.)

( مَن يَهْدِ اللَّهُ فَهُوَ الْمُهْتَدِي) (Whoever Allah guides – he is the [rightly] guided): In fact, the question of ‘whether the actions of humans are created or uncreated and as long as Allah (swt) is The One Who causes guidance and misguidance, why should Allah (swt) punishes us if we go astray?’, this question has been controversial among the exegetes, scholars, philosophers, theologians, and the Mu’tazilites. This issue requires clarification: When Allah (swt) generalizes a ruling and then specifies it, the specification governs the generalization. For instance, when Allah (swt) specifies something by saying:

 إِنَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا وَظَلَمُوا لَمْ يَكُنِ اللَّهُ لِيَغْفِرَ لَهُمْ وَلَا لِيَهْدِيَهُمْ طَرِيقًا

(Indeed, those who disbelieve and commit wrong [or injustice] – never will Allah forgive them, nor will He guide them to a path.) (An-Nisaa: 168)

The one who wrongs himself, denies, and rejects the signs of Allah (swt) is the one who deprived himself from receiving Guidance of Support. This is because Allah (swt) guides all human beings, as stated in the verse:

 إِنَّ هَٰذَا الْقُرْآنَ يَهْدِي لِلَّتِي هِيَ أَقْوَمُ

(Indeed, this Qur’an guides to that which is most suitable)

(Al-Israa: 9)

Yet, in another verse, Allah (swt) says:

 إِنَّكَ لَا تَهْدِي مَنْ أَحْبَبْتَ وَلَٰكِنَّ اللَّهَ يَهْدِي مَن يَشَاءُ

(Indeed, [O Muhammad], you do not guide whom you like, but Allah guides whom He wills.) (Al-Qasas: 56)

This is the Guidance of Support. Therefore, we will be held accountable for our free will and choices, taking into account that Allah (swt) is the Creator of all actions. For example, the tongue and its actions are created by Allah (swt); however, the way a person uses his tongue is what he will be held accountable for; if you want to use it to declare faith and say ‘There is no God but Allah’, it will respond positively to you and in the same way, it will undoubtedly obey the atheist if he wants to say-Allah forbid, ‘there is no god’. Thus, all people’s actions are created by Allah (swt), because He has supplied them with the power to do the act, but man himself is the one who uses the power to do good ar evil. The reason why Allah (swt) did not grant everyone the Guidance of Support is because He (swt) provides everyone with Directional Guidance. Whoever chooses Directional Guidance will be granted the Guidance of Support by Allah (swt).

( وَمَن يُضْلِلْ فَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْخَاسِرُونَ) (and whoever He sends astray – it is those who are the losers): Because Allah (swt) clarified the way for them, and they chose the path of misguidance, so He (swt) increased them in their misguidance and deviation.
