(153) - (But those who committed misdeeds and then repented after them and believed - indeed your Lord, thereafter, is Forgiving and Merciful.)

( وَالَّذِينَ عَمِلُوا السَّيِّئَاتِ ثُمَّ تَابُوا مِن بَعْدِهَا وَآمَنُوا) (and struck terror into them): Committing misdeeds could lead people out of religion. The Prophet (saws) said:

“When an adulterer commits illegal sexual intercourse, then he is not a believer at the time he is doing it, and when a drinker of an alcoholic liquor drinks it, then he is not a believer at the time of drinking it, and when a thief steals, then he is not a believer at the time of stealing, and when a robber robs, and the people look at him, then he is not a believer at the time of doing robbery.”[1]

Faith needs to be constantly renewed.

( إِنَّ رَبَّكَ مِن بَعْدِهَا لَغَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ ) (indeed your Lord, thereafter, is Forgiving and Merciful): If we want to seek Allah’s (swt) Forgiveness, His (swt) Mercy, His Paradise, and His (swt) bounties, then we need to repent, renew our faith, and apply what we believe in.
