( قَالُوا أَجِئْتَنَا لِنَعْبُدَ اللَّهَ وَحْدَهُ وَنَذَرَ مَا كَانَ يَعْبُدُ آبَاؤُنَا ۖ) (They said, “Have you come to us that we should worship Allah alone and leave what our fathers have worshipped): They want to worship what their forefathers used to worship before them, and this is blind imitation which gets passed down from one generation to the next without knowledge nor awareness. The Holy Quran stands against this blind imitation.

( فَأْتِنَا بِمَا تَعِدُنَا إِن كُنتَ مِنَ الصَّادِقِينَ ) (Then bring us what you promise us, if you should be of the truthful): Their Prophet (PBUH) used to warn them of punishment if they denied the calling of truth.
