(20) - (But Satan whispered to them to make apparent to them that which was concealed from them of their private parts. He said, "Your Lord did not forbid you this tree except that you become angels or become of the immortal.")

( فَوَسْوَسَ لَهُمَا الشَّيْطَانُ) (But Satan whispered to them): Whispering indicates that the temptation was done in a soft voice. In fact calling for lawful and righteous deeds do not require whispering.

( لِيُبْدِيَ لَهُمَا مَا وُورِيَ عَنْهُمَا مِن سَوْآتِهِمَا) (to make apparent to them that which was concealed from them of their private parts): Satan did not whisper to them with the intention of making them conscious of their nakedness which they had been unaware; rather, he seduced them so that they would disobeyed Allah (swt) because this is the pledge he took upon himself when he said:

(“Reprieve me until the Day they are resurrected.”) (Al-A’raaf: 14)

The proposition (to) in: (to make apparent) is used for consequences not for causality, which means that Satan firstly whispered to them, then as a result of listening to that whispering, their private parts became apparent to them. All this took place in the Paradise of preparation. As a result of Satan’s whispers:

(And Adam and his wife ate of it, and their private parts became apparent to them, and they began to fasten over themselves from the leaves of Paradise. And Adam disobeyed his Lord and erred.) (Taha: 121)

Satan tempted them by two matters which are fooling human beings until today, and they are the sources of all forms of disobedience: (He said, “Your Lord did not forbid you this tree except that you become angels or become of the immortal.”). All human beings desire immortality, they fear death and seek sovereignty, the power of money and high ranks in society. Satan said to them, if they eat from this tree, they will either become kings or immortal. He whispered to them and seduced them with these two temptations. Accordingly, we come to know for sure that it was the garden in which they were being prepared for what is coming next.
