(أُولَٰئِكَ الَّذِينَ لَيْسَ لَهُمْ فِي الْآخِرَةِ إِلَّا النَّارُ) (Those are the ones for whom there is not in the Hereafter but the Fire): Hellfire is the abode of those who worked for the sake of the world without having faith in Allah (swt), for they have taken their reward in the life of the world.

( وَحَبِطَ مَا صَنَعُوا فِيهَا) (And lost is what they did therein): In the afterlife, their work will be lost. The Arabic word of (lost) refers to bloating of cattle when they eat something green that has not yet matured, so it is said: The animal has become swollen, due to a swelling in its stomach, so the ignorant person might think that it is fat, but in reality, it is a temporary swelling that disappears when its cause disappears. The work of the disbelievers is lost in the afterlife because it is false, as Allah (swt) says:

(وَبَاطِلٌ مَّا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ ) (and worthless is what they used to do)
