( وَقَالَ نِسْوَةٌ فِي الْمَدِينَةِ امْرَأَتُ الْعَزِيزِ تُرَاوِدُ فَتَاهَا عَن نَّفْسِهِ…) ( And women in the city said, “The wife of al-‘Azeez is seeking to seduce her slave boy…): The words of the women were not a defense of the truth or an adherence to virtue, but rather a form of retaliation against the wife of the Aziz.

(… قَدْ شَغَفَهَا حُبًّا…) (… he has impassioned her with love…): This means that her feelings moved from her awareness to the innermost part of her heart. The Arabic term (impassion) refers to the thin membrane that covers the heart; thus, the love had deeply penetrated her heart.
