الآية رقم (55) - وَإِذْ قُلْتُمْ يَا مُوسَى لَن نُّؤْمِنَ لَكَ حَتَّى نَرَى اللَّهَ جَهْرَةً فَأَخَذَتْكُمُ الصَّاعِقَةُ وَأَنتُمْ تَنظُرُونَ

(55) - “And remember when you said, "Oh Musa, we will never believe you until we see Allah clearly"; so the thunderbolt took you while you were looking on.”

After all these favours and blessings from Allah U, and after Allah U turned to them and accepted their repentance, they said to Prophet Musa u:

﴾لَن نُّؤْمِنَ لَكَ حَتَّىٰ نَرَى اللَّهَ جَهْرَةً ﴿ “we will never believe you until we see Allah clearly” and this was the literal physical gaze that they had.

From the greatness of Allah U is that He is not seen:

﴾لَا تُدْرِكُهُ الْأَبْصَارُ وَهُوَ يُدْرِكُ الْأَبْصَارَ ۖ وَهُوَ اللَّطِيفُ الْخَبِيرُ﴿

“Vision perceives Him not, but He perceives [all] vision; and He is the Subtle, the Acquainted.” [Surah Al-An’aam: 103].
