( وَاتَّبَعْتُ مِلَّةَ آبَائِي إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ…) ( And I have followed the religion of my fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob…): He began to clarify who he was , mentioning that his father is Ya’qub, his grandfather is Ishaq, and his great-grandfather is Ibrahim (PBUT).

(… مَا كَانَ لَنَا أَن نُّشْرِكَ بِاللَّهِ مِن شَيْءٍ…) (…And it was not for us to associate anything with Allah…): He began inviting them to Islam in this manner, because Islam is the message of all the Prophets (PBUT). A person who associates partners with Allah (swt) is misguided and lacks understanding and knowledge.

(… ذَٰلِكَ مِن فَضْلِ اللَّهِ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى النَّاسِ…) (…That is from the favor of Allah upon us and upon the people…): Knowing that there is no deity except Allah (swt) is itself a favor from Allah.

(...وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ النَّاسِ لَا يَشْكُرُونَ ) (…  but most of the people are not grateful):  The blessings of Allah (swt) are countless and innumerable, but most people do not thank Him for these blessings. Among the greatest of these blessings is knowing that there is no deity except Allah and that we should worship Him alone (swt).
