(… مُّتَّكِئِينَ فِيهَا عَلَى الْأَرَائِكِ) (Reclining therein on the thrones …): The Arabic word of (reclining) means to sit comfortably. The Arabic word of (thrones) indicates beds which have ornaments like the mosquito net. To understand this situation of reclining and how it indicates comfort and joy, let’s consider the case of someone who stands or sits for a long time without taking rest. You will see him disturbed and not settled. Thus, reclining is one of the manifestations of luxury and bliss in both the worldly life and the Hereafter. This is the favour of which Allah (swt) has promised the righteous for their patience. Thus, (The throne) refers to a bed located in a house like a dome, covered with clothes ornamented with pearls and rubies. They will not only be rewarded a Garden full of food and drink, in which they will dress silk and recline on the thrones, but also:

(  لَا يَرَوْنَ فِيهَا شَمْسًا وَلَا زَمْهَرِيرًا… ) (…experiencing therein neither sun, nor frost): Allah (swt) has prepared their luxurious and comfortable dwelling so that they do not experience the sun nor the frost. Thus, they will be neither harmed by the heat of the sun which could force them to leave their thrones to enter their homes. The one who ponders on this verse, finds something wonderful. Does Allah’s saying (experiencing therein neither sun, nor frost) mean that there is no sun at all in the Paradise? Or is there a sun whose heat does not hurt who exposes to it? Some scholars said: The Paradise is illuminated without a sun or a moon, for that they interpreted the word (frost) as referring to the moon, as Al-Zamakhshari did. Accordingly, the verse can have the two meanings: They do not experience a hot and burning sun, or there is no sun at all because the Paradise is illuminated by itself, thus, there is no need also for the moon that used to illuminate the worldly life. Putting this verse side by side with another verse, saying:

 أَصْحَابُ الْجَنَّةِ يَوْمَئِذٍ خَيْرٌ مُّسْتَقَرًّا وَأَحْسَنُ مَقِيلًا

(The companions of Paradise, that Day, are [in] a better settlement and better resting place.) (Al-Furgan: 24)

We should ask: ‘How is there a (resting place) while there is no heat, cold or moon? The Arabic word translated to (resting place) refers to the time of resting when the weather is very hot. So, how could be that there is a (resting place) in Paradise while there is no heat? We say, this Arabic word means the time of rest when someone is alone. That is why Allah (swt) makes it one of the times for which the permission to come in must be asked:

 وَحِينَ تَضَعُونَ ثِيَابَكُم مِّنَ الظَّهِيرَةِ 

(and when you put aside your clothing [for rest] at noon) (An-Nur: 85)

As the Paradise has neither sun nor frost, thus its shade is hovering over them:
