الآية رقم (19) - وَأَنَّهُ لَمَّا قَامَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ يَدْعُوهُ كَادُوا يَكُونُونَ عَلَيْهِ لِبَدًا

(19) - And that when the Servant of Allah stood up supplicating Him, they almost became about him a compacted mass.

Here the (Servant of Allah) refers to the Prophet Muhammad (saws). When he was supplicating Allah (swt), in a place called Nakhlah, between Mecca and al-Ta’f, a group of jinn gathered to listen to him while he was reciting the Holy Quran. Due to their admiration to Quranic verses, the jinn (almost became about him a compacted mass). That is, they overlaid one another to the degree that they were about to fall over him (saws). They swarmed in order to listen to the Holy Quran and formed into a compacted mass.

(  لِبَدًا ) (…compacted mass): The Arabs use this word to describe the matted hair which is overlapped over each other.
