Along with sending the rain, four things are mentioned here, come down following asking for forgiveness and repentance and constitute a source of power; wealth, children, gardens and rivers. Allah’s Provisions are one of His Blessings among which are: Bringing us into existence and enjoining obligations. Hence, if you love Allah (swt) for His Blessings of bringing you to existence and granting you the provisions, then you should love Him (swt) for the blessing of enjoining obligations. In fact, Allah (swt) is Able to bring into existence and to provide; He (swt) brought us into existence and gave us the provision of wealth and children which keep increasing.
( وَيَجْعَل لَّكُمْ جَنَّاتٍ وَيَجْعَل لَّكُمْ أَنْهَارًا… ) (…and provide for you gardens and provide for you rivers): This verse has unlimited meanings since it is constructed by the most Wise and Omniscient. Pondering upon it, we find such beauty which can never be imitated or produced by a human being. Here a question may arise: Why is garden mentioned before the rivers in spite of that the rivers is the cause of gardens? We say: The answer to this question reveals the greatness of the Quranic structure. In the previous verse, Allah (swt) states the sending of rain, so it is more suitable to mention the gardens after it because they grow by the rain water. So, Allah (swt) made the rain is the cause of growing gardens and the rivers which the humans use for drinking and irrigation. In fact, falling the rain on the mountains is the cause of rivers.
One of the great Imsms had a person come to him, saying, “We don’t have rain in our country. Pray to Allah to send down rain for us.” The Imam replied, “Seek forgiveness from Allah.” Another person came to him and said, “I do not have children.” The Imam again said, “Seek forgiveness from Allah.” Then another person approached him, saying, “I am in need of money.” Once again, the Imam replied, “Seek forgiveness from Allah.” The people present said to him, “Whenever someone comes to you with a matter, you only say, ‘Seek forgiveness from Allah.’ Why is that?” The Imam replied: “Because Allah (swt) states in Surah Noah:
فَقُلْتُ اسْتَغْفِرُوا رَبَّكُمْ إِنَّهُ كَانَ غَفَّارًا (10) يُرْسِلِ السَّمَاءَ عَلَيْكُم مِّدْرَارًا (11) وَيُمْدِدْكُم بِأَمْوَالٍ وَبَنِينَ وَيَجْعَل لَّكُمْ جَنَّاتٍ وَيَجْعَل لَّكُمْ أَنْهَارًا
(And said, ‘Ask forgiveness of your Lord. Indeed, He is ever a Perpetual Forgiver. (10) He will send [rain from] the sky upon you in [continuing] showers (11) And give you increase in wealth and children and provide for you gardens and provide for you rivers.) (Noah: 10-12)
Accordingly, whenever you want to ask Allah (swt), first you have to ask Him to forgive your sins as this is the key for accepting the seeking (Do’aa). The people of Noah were very concern about the worldly life and they did not fear Allah’s (swt) Majesty.
