(67) - (The hypocrite men and hypocrite women are of one another. They enjoin what is wrong and forbid what is right and close their hands. They have forgotten Allah, so He has forgotten them [accordingly]. Indeed, the hypocrites - it is they who are the defiantly disobedient.)

(الْمُنَافِقُونَ وَالْمُنَافِقَاتُ بَعْضُهُم مِّن بَعْضٍ ۚ…) (The hypocrite men and hypocrite women are of one another.): The hypocrites are of one another in the characteristics of disgrace, ugliness, lying, slander, deception, and betrayal towards others; these are the traits of the hypocrites.

…يَأْمُرُونَ بِالْمُنكَرِ…  (They enjoin what is wrong,): What the sound human nature initially rejects is disbelief in Allah, abandoning uprightness, and forsaking ethical values. As for the hypocrites, they enjoin evil, which contradicts the recognized moral values and principles upheld by sound human nature and human societies, encompassing ethical, national, and religious norms.

…وَيَنْهَوْنَ عَنِ الْمَعْرُوفِ…  (and forbid what is right,): They forbid  what people acknowledge, agree upon, accept, and embrace in terms of beliefs, religion, relationships, and various aspects related to the nature of human life. The hypocrites prevent others from everything good.

…وَيَقْبِضُونَ أَيْدِيَهُمْ ۚ…  (and close their hands.): The closed hand is a metaphor for stinginess, indicating that the hypocrites do not spend in the way of Allah (swt). The hypocrite looks at worldly life without considering the Hereafter and focuses on people without considering the Lord. Therefore, their hand remains closed, unable to be a source of goodness for others, even if this source were financial or related to charity and spending in the way of Allah (swt).

…نَسُوا اللَّهَ…  (They have forgotten Allah,): Meaning, they have forgotten Allah’s commands.

…فَنَسِيَهُمْ…  (so, He has forgotten them.): Allah (swt) does not forget. This verse means, He (swt) has withdrawn His mercy from them; He has deprived them of His mercy.

…إِنَّ الْمُنَافِقِينَ هُمُ الْفَاسِقُونَ (Indeed, the hypocrites – it is they who are the defiantly disobedient.): The hypocrite is disobedient and sinner. He is the one who leaves the obedience of Allah (swt) and His commands.
