(53) - (That is because Allah would not change a favor which He had bestowed upon a people until they change what is within themselves. And indeed, Allah is Hearing and Knowing.)

Allah (swt) bestows blessings upon people, and He, Glory be to Him, does not change. However, it is human beings who change. Therefore, humans should not ask Allah (swt) to change their state for them, but rather, they should change themselves for the sake of their Lord (swt). Thus, He (swt) says:

( ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّ اللَّهَ لَمْ يَكُ مُغَيِّرًا نِّعْمَةً أَنْعَمَهَا عَلَىٰ قَوْمٍ حَتَّىٰ يُغَيِّرُوا مَا بِأَنفُسِهِمْ  ) (That is because Allah would not change a favor which He had bestowed upon a people until they change what is within themselves.): So, when they change, replacing their faith with disbelief, truth with lies, honesty with treachery, and good character with vices, Allah (swt) subjects them to trials and withdraws the blessings He granted them. On the other hand, any change for the better cannot occur as long as a person does not change his negative and bad habits into good ones. As mentioned before, visible crimes only arise from hidden psychological illnesses within people’s hearts, such as envy, hatred, and malice. While human laws protect societies from overt crimes, they cannot see hidden, internal crimes. Whereas, religious teachings guide our inner conscience towards righteousness because religion is a responsibility that Allah, The Absolute, The One who created human beings, entrusted in the hearts of human beings. So, beware of breaking the trust in inner matters which no other than Allah knows, such as envy and hatred. If a person lacks moral conscience, he may eventually commit visible crimes. This moral conscience can only be developed through trustworthiness, emphasized by Allah (swt) when He says:

 إِنَّا عَرَضْنَا الْأَمَانَةَ عَلَى السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَالْجِبَالِ فَأَبَيْنَ أَن يَحْمِلْنَهَا وَأَشْفَقْنَ مِنْهَا وَحَمَلَهَا الْإِنسَانُ ۖ إِنَّهُ كَانَ ظَلُومًا جَهُولًا

(Indeed, We offered the Trust to the heavens and the earth and the mountains, and they declined to bear it and feared it, but man [undertook to] bear it. Indeed, he was indeed, unjust and ignorant.”) (Al-Ahzab: 72)

Therefore, individuals must safeguard this trust to avoid Allah’s wrath and the withdrawal of His blessings.
