(121) - (And do not eat of that upon which the name of Allah has not been mentioned, for indeed, it is grave disobedience. And indeed do the devils inspire their allies [among men] to dispute with you. And if you were to obey them, indeed, you would be associators [of others with Him].)

(And do not eat of that upon which the name of Allah has not been mentioned): It is not permissible to eat from the meat upon which Allah’s name was not mentioned. To mention something means to remember it and use certain expressions to express it. Mentioning Allah (swt) means to live in His presence (swt) and never to forget Him (swt).

(وَإِنَّهُ لَفِسْقٌ) (it is grave disobedience): Disobedience is stepping out of obedience, similar to what happens to the crust of the date when it is ripe.

( وَإِنَّ الشَّيَاطِينَ لَيُوحُونَ إِلَىٰ أَوْلِيَائِهِمْ لِيُجَادِلُوكُمْ ) (And indeed do the devils inspire their allies [among men] to dispute with you): The devil is the disobedient of both mankind and jinn. They inspire their allies to dispute with the believers on why they eat this and not eat that? This is the same question that the disbelievers have asked before: “Why do you eat from what you kill but not from what Allah (swt) killed?”

(And if you were to obey them, indeed, you would be associators [of others with Him]): Obeying them or refusing to mention the name of Allah (swt) is considered associating others with Allah (swt).
