الآية رقم (80) - وَلُوطًا إِذْ قَالَ لِقَوْمِهِ أَتَأْتُونَ الْفَاحِشَةَ مَا سَبَقَكُم بِهَا مِنْ أَحَدٍ مِّن الْعَالَمِينَ

(80) - (And [We had sent] Lot when he said to his people, "Do you commit such immorality as no one has preceded you with from among the worlds?)

( وَلُوطًا إِذْ قَالَ لِقَوْمِهِ ) (And [We had sent] Lot when he said to his people): In this verse, Allah (swt) does not say (their brother Lot). Notice this precision and accuracy of every letter, every word and every grammatical sign, which is only found in the Holy Quran because it is revealed from Allah (swt), The Wise. From this, it is clear that Prophet Lot (PBUH) was not originally from amongst the people to whom he was sent, rather he accompanied Prophet Ibrahim (PBUH) from the mountain of Sina to the bank of the Euphrates. He (PBUH) stayed in this area with the people for a period of time so that they knew him well and he (PBUH) knew everything about them, their norms and traditions, and all about what was going on in that village.

( أَتَأْتُونَ الْفَاحِشَةَ) (Do you commit such immorality): Prophet Lut (PBUH) did not say to them ‘My Lord sent me to command you to obey Him (swt), to refrain from disobedience, and to believe that Allah (swt) is the One and Only True God’. Instead, he (PBUH) directly addressed to the most awful matter which all healthy natures loathsome. He asked them a critical question:

( أَتَأْتُونَ الْفَاحِشَةَ مَا سَبَقَكُم بِهَا مِنْ أَحَدٍ مِّنَ الْعَالَمِينَ ) (Do you commit such immorality as no one has preceded you with from among the worlds?): It is an excessively ugly act that goes against the natural disposition of human beings. The immorality mentioned here is the homosexual act.

( مَا سَبَقَكُم بِهَا مِنْ أَحَدٍ مِّنَ الْعَالَمِينَ ) (no one has preceded you with from among the worlds?): Some said that the particle (min) (from) is meaningless, but this cannot be said about Allah (swt)’s words; for each letter has a meaning, an indication, and a function. Allah (swt) reveals to us through this particle that these people were the first to commit such an immoral, heinous act that goes against human nature and disposition. To give an example, if you say to someone: “I do not have money”, this could mean that the speaker still has a small amount of money. However, if the Arabic version of the sentence uses the particle (min) before (money), then it is an indication that the person does not have even the smallest sum of money, or means: “I do not have any money at all”. Likewise, when it says in this verse: (no one has preceded you with from among the worlds?): It means that not even a single person in the whole world has done this heinous, filthy act before these people did.
