( وَلَقَدْ مَكَّنَّاكُمْ فِي الْأَرْضِ) (And We have certainly established you upon the earth): Allah (swt) gives us the means of living.

( وَجَعَلْنَا لَكُمْ فِيهَا مَعَايِشَ) (and made for you therein ways of livelihood): Allah (swt) provides humans beings with all what they need in the universe. In fact, the universe came into being before the human beings. The earth, air, water, sky, rain, clouds, and plants were all created before mankind and when the humans came into being, they found every creation subjected to them by Allah (swt).  Despite that, the human nature is as Allah (swt) describes it in:

 وَقَلِيلٌ مِّنْ عِبَادِيَ الشَّكُورُ

(And few of My servants are grateful.) (Saba: 13)
