(65) - (And to the 'Aad [We sent] their brother Hud. He said, "O my people, worship Allah; you have no deity other than Him. Then will you not fear Him?")

In the story of Prophet Noah (PBUH), Allah (swt) said: (We had certainly sent Noah to his people), while here Allah (swt) says: (And to the ‘Aad [We sent] their brother Hud). Allah (swt) sent Hud (PBUH) to the people of ‘Aad, (their brother) means he was from their same race and spoke their own language, they know quite well everything about him and his past. Allah (swt) sends the Messengers from the same culture of their people, so that the Messengers’ lives are laid out plain and clear before them like an open book. Should their people still deny what the Prophets (PBUT) tell them after that, then this denial is obviously done on purpose because they know this Prophet who has always been with them, they knew him since birth, they have seen him grow up, witnessed his youth, his honesty, piousness, truthfulness, and faithfulness.

Prophet Hud (PBUH) was sent to the people of ‘Aad who are mentioned as well in other verses across the Holy Quran.

( قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ اعْبُدُوا اللَّهَ ) (He said, “O my people, worship Allah): Each Prophet (PBUT) repeats the same Message, that is to worship Allah and worshipping requires obedience.

( مَا لَكُم مِّنْ إِلَٰهٍ غَيْرُهُ ) (you have no deity other than Him): Allah (swt) is the Only True God (swt).

( أَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ ) (Then will you not fear Him): The third command is to fear Allah (swt) and to give advices for the people.

Why did He (swt) say in this verse (And to the ‘Aad [We sent] their brother Hud. He said) without using conjunction before the word (said), while in the story of Prophet Noah (PBUH), it uses a conjunction (and) in: (We had certainly sent Noah to his people, and he said)? In the Arabic text of the word, the conjunction used is the letter (fa) which refers to a consequence. The period of time in which Prophet Noah (PBUH) called his people to believe was over nine hundred and 50 years, as is mentioned in the Holy Quran. There is repetition in his calling to them over a long period of time.

 فَلَمْ يَزِدْهُمْ دُعَائِي إِلَّا فِرَارًا

(But my invitation increased them not except in flight) (Nooh: 6)

As for Prophet Hud (PBUH), he told them once, twice or three times, but it was not for a prolonged period of time. The second difference is that Prophet Hud (PBUH) told his people: (“O my people, worship Allah; you have no deity other than Him. Then will you not fear Him?”).  Whereas Prophet Noah (PBUH) said: (Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a tremendous Day): Prophet Noah (PBUH) knew from Allah (swt) what his people did not know. He knew that there will be punishment, the first punishment for mankind after leaving the faith of Adam (PBUH), whereas Prophet Hud (PBUH) did not know. Prophet Hud (PBUH) said: (Then will you not fear Him), they are asked to fear Allah (swt). All Prophets (PBUT) requested that from their people because fear of Allah (swt) means to obey His (swt) commandments, to fear grave matters, to be satisfied with what we have whatever little, and to prepare for the day when we shall leave this earth.
