(73) - (And to the Thamud [We sent] their brother Salih. He said, "O my people, worship Allah; you have no deity other than Him. There has come to you clear evidence from your Lord. This is the she-camel of Allah [sent] to you as a sign. So leave her to eat within Allah 's land and do not touch her with harm, lest there seize you a painful punishment.)

( وَإِلَىٰ ثَمُودَ أَخَاهُمْ صَالِحًا) (And to the Thamud [We sent] their brother Salih): All Messages from Allah (swt) carried the same commands, that is to worship none other than Allah (swt), to obey Him (swt), and that there is no other deity than Allah (swt).

( قَدْ جَاءَتْكُم بَيِّنَةٌ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ ) (There has come to you clear evidence from your Lord): The clear evidence here refers to a miracle which is a proof of Prophet Salih’s (PBUH)’ honest announcement he was sent with from Allah (swt).

( هَٰذِهِ نَاقَةُ اللَّهِ لَكُمْ آيَةً) (This is the she-camel of Allah [sent] to you as a sign): According to the explanations of the Holy Quran, the people of Prophet Salih (PBUH) argued him for a very long time. They challenged him and agreed that each of the two parties; the Prophet Salih (PBUH) and his followers, on one hand, and the disbelievers of his people, on the other hand would supplicate to their own lords to bring miracles. They called upon their false gods but they received nothing, whereupon when the Prophet Salih (PBUH) supplicated to Allah (swt) a she-camel emerged from a giant rock.

(So leave her to eat within Allah ‘s land): The Prophet Salih (PBUH) commanded them to let it eat from any land of Allah (swt).

( وَلَا تَمَسُّوهَا بِسُوءٍ فَيَأْخُذَكُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ ) (and do not touch her with harm, lest there seize you a painful punishment): They are commanded not to cause it any harm. There are other verses which talk about the she-camel of the Prophet Salih (PBUH) saying:

(He said, “This is a she-camel. For her is a [time of] drink, and for you is a [time of] drink, [each] on a known day.) (Ash-Shu’araa: 155)

The Prophet Salih (PBUH) told them that they must designate a particular day for this she-camel to drink and they and their animals must not approach the water at that day.
