الآية رقم (78) - فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ الرَّجْفَةُ فَأَصْبَحُواْ فِي دَارِهِمْ جَاثِمِينَ

(78) - (So the earthquake seized them, and they became within their home [corpses] fallen prone.)

( فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ الرَّجْفَةُ ) (So the earthquake seized them): An earthquake is violent movement. It is also called as (an overpowering blast) in another verse:

  فَأَمَّا ثَمُودُ فَأُهْلِكُوا بِالطَّاغِيَةِ

(So as for Thamud, they were destroyed by the overpowering [blast].) (Al-Haaqqaa: 5)

( فَأَصْبَحُوا فِي دَارِهِمْ جَاثِمِينَ ) (and they became within their home fallen prone): The Arabic word used for (fallen prone) means a person who remains in his place without moving. They were hit by an earthquake so that they were sticked in their places, whoever was standing remained standing, and those laying down remained laying down.
