(40) - (Indeed, those who deny Our verses and are arrogant toward them - the gates of Heaven will not be opened for them, nor will they enter Paradise until a camel enters into the eye of a needle. And thus do We recompense the criminals.)

( إِنَّ الَّذِينَ كَذَّبُوا بِآيَاتِنَا) (Indeed, those who deny Our verses): (Verses) means miracles. The verses which are sentences in the Holy Quran are themselves miracles. Each word and each letter in the Book of Allah (swt) is a miracle. (Verses) can also means the universal signs or universal miracles. Allah (swt) says;

(Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day are signs for those of understanding.) (Ali-Imraan: 190)

This mentioned verse refers to signs and miracles that prove the existence of Allah (swt) through His (swt) creations in the universe.

They denied the verses of the Holy Quran and universal signs, moreover, they became arrogant. There are two points to be considered: The first point is denying what is mentioned in the Holy Quran, the second one is denying all the surrounding evidences in the universe. Together with this denial, there is arrogance, just like that of Satan, may he be damned. So, it is not a sin followed by repentance, but it is denial and arrogance preventing them from repentance.

( لَا تُفَتَّحُ لَهُمْ أَبْوَابُ السَّمَاءِ وَلَا يَدْخُلُونَ الْجَنَّةَ) (the gates of Heaven will not be opened for them, nor will they enter Paradise): The gates of Heaven with all their generosity, mercy, and gardens will not open for them, and they will not enter into paradise:

( حَتَّىٰ يَلِجَ الْجَمَلُ فِي سَمِّ الْخِيَاطِ) (until a camel enters into the eye of a needle). Allah (swt) puts a condition to them entering into Paradise that is rationally, scientifically, and physically impossible. The eye of the needle is the needle’s hole, and for something so big to enter it is impossible to be even imagined. Some interpreter of the Quran wondered about the connection between camels and needle holes, while in fact, there are thick ropes used on ships that share the same name in Arabic as the word used for camels, which is (jamal). As long as it is logically, scientifically, and physically impossible for these ropes to enter a needle’s hole, likewise, it is impossible for the gates of Heaven’s Mercy to open for the arrogant and disclaimers.

( وَكَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِي الْمُجْرِمِينَ) (And thus do We recompense the criminals): In another verse, (We recompense the wrongdoers). They committed evils against themselves and against the Allah’s (swt) creations by not following Allah’s (swt) path. His (swt) path is the path of goodness which instructs: do not steal, do not commit adultery, do not transgress, do not kill, do not slander, do not cause harm, do good deeds, do what is permitted, and stay away from violating others’ rights…., so it encompasses everything that is good. The person who does not follow this path is a criminal and his crime is not only against himself, but also against others whom he transgressed.
