(39) - (And the first of them will say to the last of them, "Then you had not any favor over us, so taste the punishment for what you used to earn.")

An argument will arise on that day between former and lateral nations of those who were themselves misguided, misguided others, disbelieved, grew arrogant, and denied the verses of Allah (swt).

(And the first of them will say to the last of them, “Then you had not any favor over us): Meaning, you had not any favor over us and you have lost because you followed the misguiding ways, so we are not responsible  for your misguidance.

( فَذُوقُوا الْعَذَابَ بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَكْسِبُونَ) (so taste the punishment for what you used to earn.): It is their deeds which led them to hell, not the misguidance caused by the early nations.

Allah (swt) tells us about the conditions of human beings and what happens to them when they leave the straight path, become arrogance, and invent lies about Allah (swt). People will no longer have a pretext after Allah (swt) sent the Messengers and His Books.
