(13) - “And when it is said to them, ‘Believe as the people have believed,’ they say, ‘Should we believe as the foolish have believed?’ Unquestionably, it is they who are the foolish, but they know [it] not.”

Here, the hypocrites are described with ﴾لا يَعْلَمُونَ﴿ which means ‘they do not know’. This is because, the matter in this verse is connected to faith, as we have mentioned. When they are told to believe as many other people have believed, that is, in the correct and sound way, they said, “Are we to believe just as the fools believed?” The fools they are referring to here, are the poor. The word Safiih which means ‘fool’, linguistically means ‘the person with a weak intellect.’
