(30) - (A group [of you] He guided, and a group deserved [to be in] error. Indeed, they had taken the devils as allies instead of Allah while they thought that they were guided.)

Allah’s (swt) Guidance is not limited for a group of people; rather it is for all mankind. This is the Directional Guidance with which Allah (swt) guides His servants to the true straight path. Allah (swt) says:

(Indeed, this Qur’an guides to that which is most suitable) (Al-Israa: 9)

Allah (swt) guides everyone, but the one who accepts Directional Guidance and relies on Allah (swt) to help him follow the straight path, he will be given Guidance of Support from Allah (swt). Allah (swt) says:

(And those who are guided – He increases them in guidance and gives them their righteousness.) (Muhammad: 17)

When Allah (swt) says in this verse: (A group [of you] He guided), this is Guidance of Support because it is given to a group but not to another. Allah (swt) helps them because they approach the true and straight path. As for: (and a group deserved [to be in] error), it is because: (Indeed, they had taken the devils as allies instead of Allah while they thought that they were guided). The problem is not just that they are taking the devils as their allies and following the path of sins and desires, but on top of that, they think that they are guided and that they are on the right path.
